GROW-on-the-GO

program objectives

GROW-on-the-Go is a mobile market truck, allowing us to bring GROW’s low-cost/subsidized market program to other areas throughout the Niagara region who otherwise may be unable to access GROW Market. The market truck will provide fresh and healthy food at very affordable prices, with a focus on fresh produce. All food at the market is provided at or below cost, allowing members access to healthy foods they would otherwise be unable to afford.

GROW-on-the-GO market program will target specific demographics with the highest rates of food insecurity, including seniors buildings, low-income areas, and areas where post-secondary students tend to live. We have received interest from other neighbourhoods in the region to access our GROW Market program as a sustainable way of addressing food insecurity, including Seniors’ homes and Niagara Region Housing.

The GROW-on-the-Go Market will increase GROW’s capacity to address the long-term food challenges faced by low-income residents in our community, and reach more people in the Niagara Region in need of affordable, accessible food.

We acknowledge that the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties, and is within the lands protected by the “Dish With One Spoon” wampum agreement. With our Indigenous Outreach Coordinator, we are working closely with our Indigenous community to advocate for a just food system, and to create community food programs that are culturally relevant, diverse, equitable and inclusive.
