Our diverse Community Advisory Committee (CAC) works with organizations and stakeholders, particularly those from marginalized groups including, but not limited to, Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, and 2SLGBTQI and community members to facilitate discussions that promote broader understanding and engagement between residents of diverse backgrounds and abilities.

The CAC creates a sense of belonging and increases opportunities for marginalized individuals to fully participate in their community using a food literacy framework. The CAC creates leaders with lived experiences, and increases engagement in decisions that affect the community. Through the CAC, members have a voice and are empowered to create change for themselves and build a stronger neighbourhood and community.

The role of the CAC is to provide a vehicle for effective community input to GROW’s board of directors. The CAC meets regularly and is a representation of the diverse needs and interests of the community. We believe this adds significant value to the conversations, decisions and governance structure of GROW.

We acknowledge that the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties, and is within the lands protected by the “Dish With One Spoon” wampum agreement. With our Indigenous Outreach Coordinator, we are working closely with our Indigenous community to advocate for a just food system, and to create community food programs that are culturally relevant, diverse, equitable and inclusive.
